Production Stage Manager

As a Production Stage Manager (PSM) at Stagedoor Manor, you will fill a variety of roles and have a number of responsibilities. Your main roles include serving as one of two Team Leads for the stage management department, overseeing the production of seven shows each session, and serving as Stage Manager each session for one of our showcase performances.

As a Team Lead for the stage management department, both PSMs will be responsible for overseeing and providing support for the team of 14 Stage Managers and 3 Assistant Stage Managers throughout the summer. This includes leading weekly stage management team meetings, distributing rehearsal reports and paperwork, making rounds during each rehearsal to check in, and making sure that Stage Managers’ needs are met and questions are answered.

Responsibilities as they relate to overseeing shows include running production meetings, ensuring the needs of each show are being met, facilitating communication between Administration, Tech, Artistic, and Stage Management, overseeing distribution of scripts and scores, and ensuring that shows start on time and run smoothly on production weekend. PSMs serve as the main spoke in the wheel of communication for all production-related information.

As Stage Manager for either Players Ensemble or Our Time Cabaret, you will attend daily rehearsals, run tech rehearsals, and stage manage two performances during performance week.

In addition, PSMs will also assist in running auditions each session while working closely with the Casting Committee and will be asked to run certain All Camp Events throughout the session.

This position works closely with the Director of Theatrical Programming and the Production Manager to ensure a smooth session.

It is impossible to enumerate all responsibilities because of the unique nature of the position. This

description is a basic overview and there are bound to be more responsibilities that arise  throughout the summer.

Qualified applicants must demonstrate career maturity in a variety of positions including stage

management experience as well as administrative and managerial experience. Applicants must be self-motivated problem solvers with the ability to identify issues before they become problems. Excellent communication skills, flexibility, and the ability to remain calm under pressure are also a must.

Due to the unique nature of operation at Stagedoor Manor, we typically like to fill PSM openings

through promotion up from our stage management team. However, if you are new to Stagedoor Manor and you meet the qualifications and feel you would be a good fit for the position, we invite you to apply.
